This is not a big fancy resort, but you're not paying for one either. If you want a clean room and friendly service, La Rana's for you!
This was a last-minute trip, booked through Expedia Thursday night. I arrived in Playa Sunday afternoon. Jorge grabbed my suitcase and showed me to my room. The room was simple but that's what I wanted.
I stayed the first eight nights in the Buju room. I never did see its spelling, but I'm assuming Spanish. This room is on the main level, looking into the hotel's very well-kept courtyard. This room was smaller than the Sol room, where I spent the last five days, but was also quieter and had better shower pressure. The beds were two doubles pushed together. The Sol room had a dresser, and both had AC and ceiling fans.
The location can't be any better. You're a short 3/4 block from the famous Fifth Avenue (La Quinta) and the beach is another block down. All the major bars and night clubs are within an easy walk, and there are plenty of places along the beach to eat & drink! Tired of the beach? Turn left out of the hotel and head into one of Playa's local shopping districts. Here, you don't get hassled as much, but the prices are already pretty good, so you don't have to dicker as hard either :).
If I were to go back to this hotel, I would only request a coffee pot in the room, even though there's a perfectly good place at 10th and 10th that serves real coffee. If you like your morning coffee, you might want to check out Mr. Chilies.
