Booked a pet friendly room through Expedia one week prior to arrival and paid with credit card. Specified at the time of booking that we had two dogs, to highlight this fact, even though the booking confirmed this.
When we arrived and the dogs were mentioned, we were quickly informed that under no circumstances were the dogs allowed in the room. They could be crated outside. This was untenable, as we booked the room due to the 37 degree heat being experienced in the area over that weekend and the fact we had double coated dogs. I explained that we had driven over 3 hours to arrive there.
Proprietors tried to find us alternative accomodation at the local Hotel and Motel, but no aircon with one and the other was unavailable. Proprietors were unsympathetic, reinterated that we couldn't stay, offered us a refund and so, we left. This was certainly not country hospitality.
Luckily after more phone calls in the car, we eventually found pet friendly accomodation and with country hospitality.
