Owner cancelled our reservation one day before visit
We had a long weekend planned in Williamsburg, and usually have no issue finding a hotel, but due to a big event in the area all the hotels were booked early. We were happy to find some availabilities through VRBO and chose this one at the Kingsgate resort, where we stayed once before, and made the reservation about a week in advance. One day before our rental began, we received a message from the host via the VRBO site that the owner had cancelled our reservation with no explanation. The host was very cooperative and attempted to find us another residence for our stay but could only find a partial availability (2 days of the full 4 day reservation). Although they did their best they could not find a rental for the other 2 days. We were left in limbo for several hours 1 day before a scheduled 5 hour drive, and we also spent hours attempting to find a hotel room in the area for the other 2 days, with no success. After several calls to the host, and with some initial difficulty confirming that we would receive a full refund, we cancelled the entire visit. We eventually received confirmation that we would receive the full refund and it was credited to our credit card within a couple days. Although we realize this was not the host's fault and they did try to find us another accommodation, it was a huge inconvenience and we were very disappointed. Our hope is that VRBO has a system to hold the owner accountable for the problems this caused to both us and the host.
