5K SCAM: Illegal Junkyard, Alligator Canal, VRBO Backtracked on Refund
This wasn’t just a bad experience. It was a complete nightmare and a scam that VRBO is knowingly letting continue. The moment we got the address, we felt sick. We looked it up on Google Earth and couldn’t believe our eyes. The home is literally wedged between an illegal junkyard full of wrecked cars and boats, an airport runway, and a murky canal not mentioned anywhere in the listing. That canal alone is an alligator hazard, it's terrifying especially for our guests with children. This wasn’t the “private, luxury retreat” they advertised. It was a hazard zone. We tried to cancel within hours of booking. We sent proof from Zillow and Google Earth to VRBO, the location, the risks, the lies. Their response? “We need current photos.” So instead of protecting us, they told us to go risk our lives to prove their fraud. And when we did, its was worst! The pool was disgusting, coated in algae and debris, hadn’t been cleaned in days. The entire outdoor area was trashed with broken fencing, garbage everywhere, shattered furniture, and mold-covered lounge chairs with missing cushions. The pickleball court and fire pit were broken unusable, cracked, dirty, completely abandoned.Basic advertised amenities didn’t exist,no baby foot table, no umbrella, nothing like the pictures. While trying to document everything, the neighbors literally screamed threats at us. The home is directly adjacent to an illegal junkyard, visible through a collapsed fence with broken cars, oil spills, broken glass, etc
