The drive in from Knoxville was intense. The "Tail of the Dragon" was 11 miles of twisty, narrow curves but it was also really neat to see the scenery and the sports cars and motorcycles zipping through the turns.
We were here the first week of April, so the lake was too cold for swimming and the "Lakes End" restaurant/shop/marina was closed, so conveniences such as ice, firewood, kayak rentals, and boat rentals weren't available. The timing, however, did allow us to have a peaceful, private vacation. We brought our own kayaks and had the lake all to ourselves. Likewise, we had the grounds and docks (fishing) all to ourselves. There was plenty to keep our family occupied without the "resort" being open: kayaking, fishing, campfires, hot-tub, wifi, and a huge yard for sports and exploration. I have to add - Sitting on the private dock and reading a book with the lake and mountains in view was my favorite thing (beside the views when kayaking around the lake).
The cabin is everything you need for a great vacation with four people. It was clean, the beds were comfy, the linens were soft, the cookware/dinnerware were good quality, and the hosts even provided starter paper-goods, coffee pods, trash bags, and soaps. The shower was great (plenty of warm water) and the satellite/wifi were reliable. There's limited space, but there is one large dresser, one small dresser, and hooks everywhere for your belongings and cabinet room for your pantry goods. There are also some bookshelves for indoor storage. The thermostat worked great and the windows open for fresh air. There were no appliance failures/complaints to mention.
The outside amenities were exceptional. The deck was large and the table/chairs were resin composite, so they wiped dry after the rains (no cushions or absorbent wood to dry out). The hot-tub was awesome! It was clean, large, worked perfectly, and the cover was super easy to remove and replace. The structure over the hot-tub was lighted, provided an awesome gas fireplace, and provided a huge counter to store your outdoor gear. The firepit was great, too! There is some starter firewood, a picnic table, and four large seats around the pit. The charcoal grill was clean and well designed. A grill brush and ash can are provided.
Last, we took our dog and she had a great time. There is a hose for bathing and the was no dog poop anywhere when we arrived.
I get the impression that the place is very lively and fun in the summertime.
