We stayed 4 nights at this off-grid cabin on Burridge Lake. The location is tranquil but several issues during our stay made the experience disappointing — especially given the high cost of the rental. There were many cockroaches in the kitchen cabinets and even in the beds, which made it hard to feel at ease. The shower head dripped constantly, keeping us up at night. On the third day, the cabin ran out of freshwater entirely despite our judicious use of showers, and we had to hike out to get cell service in order to contact the owner. While they responded and pumped us more water, it was an awkward experience and this should have been anticipated and avoided. In addition, some amenities were not functional: the kayaks were missing seats and couldn’t be used comfortably, and several fans weren’t functioning — making the cabin very hot and stuffy in the 30C temperatures during the day.Future renters need to be aware that since there is no cell service or Wi-Fi at the property, it’s difficult to get in touch with VRBO about any issues. Their policy requires guests to report missing or broken amenities within 24 hours of check-in to be eligible for a refund or support, which is impossible to do from the cabin itself. The lakeshore in front of the cabin is very weedy and one has to paddle out well beyond the floating dock to be able to swim comfortably.Managing the cockroach infestation and maintenance of amenities is needed to justify the premium price of this rental.
