We planned this family vacation six or seven months ago. The day before check-in the operator called me and said the elevator was not working and asked if we could reschedule our vacation (and get two free days). Or if it would be OK to check in knowing that the elevator might not work.We had already flown into town so rescheduling wasn’t an option. I’ve also never been in a building that doesn’t have at least two elevators (i.e. a service elevator). In fact, I think having just a single elevator would be against code. So it was not clear why a single elevator not working, could cause such a problem. And I never got a good answer to this, which made me wonder if I was being told a “fish story”. The sales person tried to spin the problem as them being extra concerned about me since I have a bad back (as if *I* was the reason it was unacceptable). But even if I was in perfect health, it’s not acceptable to have to walk up and down stairs for the 20 flights of stairs or whatever it is to get in and out of the unit (and take luggage).So then we had to scramble to find a replacement place to stay at the last minute. Instead of spending time with my family, I was on the phone for hours trying to get a place. We ended up having to pay , but did finally get a place.The operator did refund me in full. But did not offer to do anything to make up for the unbelievable stress, huge waste of time and huge amount of extra money that we had to spend.
