The Homestead is an amazing historic house in a pretty setting. It is nicely furnished and we enjoyed sitting on the back verandah in the sun. The staff were very helpful in replacing the faulty TV the day after we checked in.
We understand that it is a very old house, and that there had been heavy rains recently, but the strong musty smell throughout made me feel ill and we left a day early. We kept all the screened doors and windows open 24/7 and it did improve during our time there, so perhaps the house could be aired prior to guests arriving.
The bathrooms and kitchen are in need of updating, and a good microwave would be useful, given that there is no oven.
The decorative touches and furnishings do provide a sense of grandeur and comfort, and it is an experience to stay here. We can understand why many people love it.
