Wonderful Experience
My mom and I went for an oceanfront experience, hoping to see the sun rise, and we really enjoyed being there. We got confused by the check-in directions and were trying to open the lock box, but a family member came right away to help - the code is actually for the keypad on the door. My mom can't walk over rough areas or for long. To see the sun rise, it's probably best to walk out onto the beach from the trail, as it's not quite visible from the room. If there wasn't any gunk on the screens, it would have been easier to see, but still an amazing view! It was fun listening to the ocean all night. It was warm in the room for this Alaska gal, and I wish I had asked the owner how to run the fan before it got so late at night lol. But then I opened the other small window, and that helped the breeze blow through and cool it down. We had everything we needed with a nice refrigerator, microwave and coffee, some dishes. A couple of the bowls were chipped, but not beyond use. The bedding was nice and clean, as was the rest of the accommodation. Only a couple of lost wadded up tissues under one nightstand and the bed, only saw them as we were plugging in our chargers. We were grateful for the affordable ocean-front experience, and enjoyed it very much.

Not as described
We did not receive correct instructions for entrance of the property. Had to contact owner to have someone come show us how to use the lock. We had no cell service so had to try and get a text off to get on Wi-Fi. Floor was so dirty; my brand-new white socks were black by the first day. Dishes and utensils dirty. Reached up to shut off a light to find extreme dust. looked up at art on wall to find extremely dusty. Hair ball in shower drain. Would have expected the screens to be clean to see through. Woke up the next day to hammering and water thrown over the upstairs balcony multiple times. 3 days of construction. Contacted owner who said, "unfortunate we did not see construction occurring in the listing." Propane ran out and we had cold showers. This was fixed. I have documented the ENTIRE listing, and it does not say ANYTHING about construction happening. I have documented the dirty unit and shower. Location, location, location, cannot recommend. Won't be back. Bummed.Patio? 2 plastic chairs that both won't fit on the slab of concrete between the outdoor shower and door to the unit.

Ocean hideaway
Great location - literally on the water with the waves crashing on the lava rocks, maybe 20 yards from the room. It is small, no kitchen, perfect for 1 or 2 people. Bathroom/shower outside, funky place, I liked it!

Crashing Waves
This little place is just yards away from the waves crashing into the lava cliffs and the ocean breeze keeps the air moving. The living space was very clean and comfortable. It is unique accommodations as the toilet and shower are in a detached bath house. The neighborhood is very quiet and lovely. There are no services super close by, and the kitchenette is minimal, so beyond coffee and warm ups, do not plan to cook. Who wants to cook on vacation?!! We enjoyed our stay and recommend to the more adventurous travelers. Aloha!

Amazingly wonderful Oceanside retreat
Lovely one room space with shutter style windows beautiful view of the ocean. Outdoor bathroom was well kept, spacious, HOT shower. Very nice and safe neighborhood. Basic amenities Keurig, fridge, microwave. Firm King size bed and good pillows, bedding, linens. A Very private retreat.

Rest and Relaxation on a Whole new Level!
You’ll never sleep better than in this little get away right by the breaking waves! It was so relaxing and calming! Joe and Cindy were wonderful hosts! They were so friendly and helpful! And going on Joe’s moped tour through the jungle and lava fields was an extra fun touch! I didn’t want to leave!!

Loved hearing the power of the ocean. Best sleep sound!
The property is neat and clean. We loved the out door bathroom/shower. Only wish the shower would have had warm water. We enjoyed the nearby park for great ocean views and beautiful crashing waves where you can see all the colors of the sea. Pahoa has a great Saturday night downtown local vibe. Live music and food. We recommend Pele’s kitchen for breakfast. And the Lava Shack for very reasonably priced adult beverages. Loved our stay. Please don’t miss the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden near Hilo. Gorgeous views - just like Gillian’s Island!

Sounds of the Ocean
Stay here while visiting family on the island. Wanted a few days alone and this was ideal. Great neighborhood for walking, accommodations had everything I needed, hosts were kind and attentive. And the outdoor bathroom is bliss! Highly recommend this for travelers alone who appreciate time alone in peace. Much mahalo🌺

Sleep to Ocean Sounds at Oceanfront Hideaway
Our stay at Oceanfront Hideaway was excellent. The suite was clean and nicely appointed. The outdoor bathroom was very unique and provided a fun experience. Everything was as described in the listing. Coffee was provided as stated, but bring your own cream and/or sugar if you want it. The ocean was directly out the window. With the rocky shore, the waves provided a lot of noise throughout the night. We actually had to close windows the first night because we weren't used to the sounds and kept waking up. The second night we stayed we slept better though. The noise can be very relaxing, but if you aren't used to ocean sounds in the night it could be a little much for you at first. The lock box wasn't obviously marked and took us a minute to find, but after finding the lock box getting in was easy as self check-in without having to worry about coordinating a specific time with the hosts. The hosts were very responsive. Overall, this was an excellent place for us to stay and have a unique experience while exploring Hilo and the area to the south of Hilo.
