James at BookSmart Properties and the homeowner do not belong in the vacation rental space. They asked that we respect the home, furniture, and neighbors during our stay. And we did. However, they did not respect our family's safety and well-being, much less the comfort and enjoyment of our vacation.
James knew we were there to celebrate our mother’s 80th birthday, and there would be young children & our dog in the group.
Day 1 we arrived to find the elevator not functioning. James responded with a couple of troubleshooting tips, followed by “Hmmmm…I’ve never seen that before.” His responses ended. It was ultimately left up to us to find a temporary solution.
Day 2 there was a GAS LEAK, a health safety issue that resulted in NO hot water for over 24 hours. Fire department came, followed by the gas company. Gas company found a leak in the line, so they could not turn on the gas until it was repaired. There was NO gas detection monitor inside the house nor a monitor on the tank outside.
When I contacted James about the awful smell that was running us out of the house, he & the homeowner insisted there were no gas devices in the home. After further troubleshooting on my family’s part, we found the gas hot water heater INSIDE the home in the laundry room right next to the children’s room with the bunk beds.
Day 3 gas leak repaired & finally had hot water.
No maintenance person came to assist with any of these issues. We were left to be the owner's maintenance staff.
