I would use Vrbo more often (over hotels) if rentals were as well executed as this property. It was a perfect blend of meeting all needs and expectations and adding the little touches—everything you need without the clutter of too much.
Bonus: all doors and windows were screened, so we always left them open. Flowers and automated artificial gas lanterns were a nice touch.
The location is in a quiet bayside enclave hidden from the nearby, more bustling coastal towns. The neighboring seaside cottages and larger homes are obviously families that have been coming for years, and there is a strong sense of community.
There is a lovely "village" center where the pier, beach, "yacht club," and park are. A community center that programs a couple of weekly events is nearby. We saw a touring magician and collector's market there and mingled with seemingly the whole town. It's an easy walk to all of the above.
If you want restaurants, a supermarket, or shopping, you head out of the enclave and drive along Route 1 or visit neighboring Belfast. We also explored as far south as Rockland (Lobster Festival) and Camden.
