Happy Hiker is a wonderful house and property for large families and groups of friends. The wooden Indian statue greeted us in the driveway, and the setting adjacent to a cul-de-sac snd trailhead, with no houses and only trees behind it, is lovely, private, and serene. The house is very clean and well stocked. There are hooks on two trees along the lush green lawn for a hammock (not provided), and I was glad I brought mine! The only small quibbles are that the carpets could use a cleaning or replacement, and the kitchen could benefit from a couple of sharper knives and a screen on the window above the sink. Overall we recommend this highly and look forward to coming back. The property manager RNR Vacation Rentals is also very attentive and helpful.

Easy check in and good location, not too far from stores or any of the Tahoe attractions. Accommodated our family very comfortably! Lots of toys for kiddos, decent amount pantry & kitchen utensils and some nice amenities; the grill, hot tub, trail access etc. The noise ordinance in the late evening (my family can get a little rowdy while playing games) & car limit were a little tricky at times but I understand those are vacation rental rules in general in the area. The house was a little dated & showed signs of wear and tear. The only true issue we had with the property was the cleanliness. The linens and kitchen were in good shape, but the bathrooms and carpet were not. The home has a “no shoes on carpet” policy that I’m assuming previous guest did not adhere too or housekeeping missed vacuuming because our feet were basically black after the first half hour of unloading & setting up our stay. The bathrooms had random dirt & undetermined stains on the counter and tile in the master as well as the downstairs bath shared by two rooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay! I’m sure the cleaning issue was a one off considering other reviews didn’t mention this issue. Would definitely recommend for families.

A well-appointed gem in tranquil Tahoe

We had a wonderful stay for a recent hockey tournament. This property ticked all the boxes, a quick drive to Tahoe amenities and stores but the hiking trail and green space made for a very peaceful stay. Everything we could have possibly needed was waiting for our convenience including serving bowls, cookie cutters, fans and all of the comforts of home. We would definitely choose this property again.

Nice Family get away

Over all our experience at this home was great. The home met all of our needs. We visited during a late winter storm and the property was warm and cozy. We had a minor issue with a room and it was addressed immediately. We would stay here again in the future. There are a lot of rules for this neighborhood, but once you understand them it’s not to over bearing.

Family trip

Great time with our kids and grandkids. Cabin was perfect for the kids. It backed up to a forest and made it easy for them to play in the snow.

Great location and backyard

The bedrooms are separate so this a good spot to stay with a group. Hot tub is lovely and the kitchen is well equipped. We loved the hiking trails right out the back door.

Great place to stay!

We had a group of 7 adults that came to ski and snowboard, and the house was great! The beds and couches were comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked, and the property was well maintained. We enjoyed our stay!

Great pace to stay

Perfect location and a great stay

A family vacation (8 of us) from 2 areas of the country and enjoyed the layout of the house as one family stayed in the 3 bedrooms downstairs, and the other 2 in the upstairs bedrooms. Location was great. Out of town enough for quiet, and just off the main road for a quick ride to downtown. Trailhead right outside the door that led to a series of about a dozen trials. Great for early morning walks. Nice deck overlooking the trails. Really enjoyed South Lake Tahoe. It was July 4th week and VERY crowded. However, the mood was very upbeat, locals and visitors were friendly, happy & having fun. Town was clean & inviting. Had a pool table we used a lot. They have plenty of toys & games for toddlers. The few games our family & teens could have played were not complete. Pros: Location! / Layout of home / Ease of access / Open kitchen (room for multiple cooks) / Comfy beds (firm) / All rooms have fans / Clean Cons: Could use a few games for older kids

Plenty of room and great location

My family enjoyed their stay in Happy Hiker. Plenty of room for our family of 6. We enjoyed having the pool table and the walking trails right outside the door. Nice neighborhood and easy communication with management team.

Great- but intense amount of rules

We stayed in south Tahoe at the end of June and choose this home to accommodate the 12 of us! (6 adults, 6 kids) the house fit our needs and was well supplied kitchen/bath towel wise! We enjoyed being right next to the trail in the backyard and driving distance to many of our activities. However we received a massive rule list before coming- threatening charges for any mistake. (Ie. Dirty hot tub water left behind- big time charge.. water spots or any damage to pool table-big charge (when the pool table was ALREADY in poor condition with a few holes in the velvet), there are sound monitors all along the outdoor premise threatening if your above sound level they will call the cops. Given, we’re respectful but with 6 kids under 7 we were very stressed it would pick up the sound from inside! The two guest bedrooms doors would not lock either. We just felt for the extreme pressure of the list of rules with the threatening of charging extra, made us enjoy the home a little less. Overall cleanliness was good along with location. Rooms were comfortable overall. Just would put a warning- if you book be prepared for a book of rules for a home that we felt wasn’t quite up to par of the necessity of rules!

Girls Trip

The location and convinience was perfect, the home and all its space was more than enough for 5 girls. We had so much space to not feel crammed and come together for a game of pool, movie night and dinner.

Great for families

We came as a group over MLK weekend. Home was as advertised in the VRBO listing. There was a snow storm during the weekend I was there so it was nice that there was a large backyard so the kids can play in the snow. There are a lot of amenities there and and I didn’t need to bring a lot of the things I brought, but oh well. Most of the time, these rentals are bare. Plenty of space for everyone and it was pretty clean.

The property had a great location in South Lake Tahoe with privacy. The property was clean and had great space. Very affordable for what you got. Highly recommend.

Exactly as described

Quiet family neighborhood. Spacious home with good beds, nice bathrooms, showers, all very clean. Management was very attentive. Enjoyed the gas log fireplace. We used the kitchen a great deal and found everything we needed for making meals. We also enjoyed the hot tub outside. The backyard setting for the hot tub was wooded and serene.

Fire alarm problem

Overall, stay was awesome, the only problem was with fire alarms going off inside the whole house, we ended up disconnecting them, as advised by the staff.

Great house for a family vacation

This home is just the right size for a family getaway. Lots of space for everyone. The upstairs includes the kitchen, dining area and living room. Lots of space for everyone to gather. The upstairs master was very large and comfortable. The downstairs has a good size living room with a pool table (that was dearly loved by my grandkids). There is also another generous sized master in the lower level. Having 3 bathrooms for 8 people was just perfect. The setting, so close to the trees was wonderful. The artwork throughout the home was very well done. My one complaint, which can't be controlled, was that the upstairs area stayed a little too warm. The outdoor daytime temperature was in the 80s and even though we followed instructions for keeping the home closed up in the daytime hours, opening doors and windows in the evening and putting on the fans, the upstairs still remained very warm. Downstairs was at least 10 degrees cooler. We didn't let us bother us too much. We would definitely go back to this home again. My 11 year old granddaughter started to cry when we were packing up to go. She loved it and didn't want to leave. Thank you!

Happy Hiker.

We had a great friend trip to Tahoe. We had plenty of space with the 6 of us. Although we loved the location, hot tub and great communication, we suggest the following to make the stay better for others. Fix kitchen floor We realize this house is in the woods but there were two beds with spiders in them, a huge spider in a bathroom sink, one climbing on the wall and dead ones in window sills. I suggest bug strips. Ice machine did not work. Water would not freeze. We had to buy ice everyday. Two toilets need handles fixed. The kitchen window is cracked. You list a hair dryer in each bathroom but the master suite did not have one. The jacuzzi is difficult to get in and out of. Needs a foot stool at least. Even though we noticed these things and a carpet that needs to be stretched upstairs to prevent tripping, we still had a great experience.

Great family vacation home

Great location. Off the main roads and hiking trails right outside the door. Great layout for a large group and well stocked. Takes 7 minutes to get to the strip so everything is close by. Would definitely recommend this house for a large gathering.
