We rented this house for my Mom’s 60th birthday and flew the family in - 6 adults and 2 children. The location and views from the house are absolutely stunning - albeit pulling out and into the driveway can be tricky with a big car (think Suburban or Tahoe).
The house itself was relatively clean - but it’s obvious that the property is in need of a serious makeover and some TLC. The pictures show an updated kitchen - two in fact but that’s where the updates end. The rest of the house is straight out of the 80s with full mirrored walls in tow.
The pool is smaller than pictured and if you are staying for an extended period of time will be a nice green by the time you leave. The hot tub kept losing water - but honestly it was probably the nicest thing about the outside patio (other than the view).
The master bathroom is definitely older - the air conditioning is not central, you have wall units in each bedroom, which work, but you are warned not to turn them too low. There’s no air conditioner in areas like the bathroom or main living area which get quite hot during the day (especially if you are venturing out).
The main living floor is upstairs and the outdoor table on the lanai is great for family meals. It’s probably a whole 10 degrees cooler out there than inside. The doors and screens to the rest of the house however have holes in them that let the critters through - so if you don’t like flies, cockroaches, geckos etc you’ll probably want to keep them closed.
In summary, for a first trip to Hawaii, we had a great time. I personally wouldn’t stay again until the home is updated, but if all you care about is views, then this is the place for you. The home is large, can be comfortable, and is great for family gatherings - but it’s obvious that the location is taking a toll on the maintenance and much much needed refurb on the property.
