We will say that overall this was a good stay. Please note that if you're staying here and plan to visit Acadia daily you should plan on driving at least 45 minutes to Bar Harbor (+/- depending on where you're going). The road to the house is all gravel, thankfully it didn't rain much during our stay but it would've been interesting if it had (there are some steep parts in the drive out) and I don't think this was mentioned in the description. It was closer to 35 minutes to Cadillac during our off-season stay. There's a Hannaford's nearby for essentials and Ellsworth is 15-20 minutes away for more. If you plan on using the fire pit bring wood and everything you need to light it. We didn't use the grill so can't comment on that, but there was one available.
Now onto the actual property.
The good:
- Proximity to the water
- Beautiful area near the firepit
- Plenty of towels
- Well-stocked kitchen (utensils, etc.)
- No GPS issues
- Easy check-in
- Spacious living room feel
- The wifi was reliable
The bad:
- Poor communication with the hosting company
- Dirty (The floors had lots of dirt and tiny rocks, they have clearly not cleaned under the beds in a very long time, trash under the beds, the loft walls had lots of cobwebs and lint, the surfaces and lamps on the bottom two floors were very dirty. Remote controls had something sticky? What made it worse is that we were charged a very steep cleaning fee when booking, so we expected a clean house.)
- No hood on the stove (we had to open doors and try to ventilate so the fire alarm would stop going off). Seriously, the stove needs a hood.
- Fees. There's a booking fee for Vacasa, the hosting company as well as a booking fee for VRBO. Ouch!
- Broken chairs that could've caused an injury
- TV is not really useful. If you have kids and want to have something for a bit bring your own DVD's they have a player but there's no cable or local channels and it won't connect to the internet in order to log in to any streaming accounts.
