We were in town to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday a few miles away on the lake. So, the good news is that we did not have to spend too much time in this house. We had alternatives until bed time.
When we arrived, there were dirty cleaning cloths left out, bedding in the dryer, and an empty garbage liner on floor as if the cleaning crew left in a hurry. This makes sense because then we noticed flies, stink bugs, and other bugs on both floors of the home.
Other unpleasantries about this expensive VRBO: no window treatments/privacy on the first floor, particularly in the main living room where there are very large windows exposed to a busy street. The smoke alarms also are triggered by turning on the stove - with no smoke at all. The summer bedding was not sufficiently warm despite this warm fall.
Finally, the 10am checkout seemed early and the cleaning fee seemed high considering all the cleaning that was requested of us before checking out and considering the very high cleaning fee.
This next concern is not specific to the house but more of a heads-up to those considering a visit to Green Lake. the town of Green Lake seems very hostile to visitors, unlike past years. We were stared at often while walking to town. My partner and my dog were harassed by drivers while walking alongside the road without me. I imagine visits would be scarier for non-white families and friends. It was really sad to see and experience.
