Poor Communication led to a unsatisfying experience
I had booked this place to stay in GP while my son completed tryouts with a local hockey team. Prior to the stay, I had messaged with a question, but had received no response. When we arrived in GP earlier than expected, I tried messaging the owner again to see if we could check in early. Again, no response. Within a day, the smoke detector started chirping as though the battery was empty. Again, I messaged the owner, and again, no response. Frustrated, I called VRBO to try and contact the owner. I received a response a few days later. Fortunately, the smoke alarm stopped chirping so we could sleep. We wound up checking out a few days early, on Tuesday. I messaged the owner to let them know and ask for any specific check out instructions. No surprise - there was no response. I wound up letting the VRBO helpline I was leaving.
The house itself was clean and as pictured in the ad. Mowing the lawn and cleaning the laundry area is recommended. Upon entering, it was about 30 degrees Celsius in the house - no air conditioning. Prospective guests should also know that this house is a duplex, and that the back bedroom is above the main entry of the second home. With the windows open (to keep it cool), it got noisy. There is only street parking available and the block can get busy - be prepared to park down the street from the house.
Overall, the experience could have been made so much better if the owner would have responded to my questions and smoke detector concerns.
