“Peaceful and kindly”

“Lovely spacious well-heated house in beautiful countryside. We had a week of snowy weather which was heavenly. Edward, the owner was extremely helpful. He towed out some cars which got stuck in the car park by the house, provided lots of logs, replaced the washing machine which had problems and was generally a great help. This is a house for people who like old books and furnishings...don't go there if you want modern posh.”

“Margaret was very friendly and informative about the town and the festival. The house was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying at her cottage. ”

“Beautiful cottage, spacious and warm, well maintained and well equipped. Lovely countryside setting. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Be careful when booking as this property came up when i searched for a cottage with hot tub, there are two adjacent cottages, but only one has a hot tub.”

“The small cottage is very well equipped, It has been very well thought out, every thing you need using the small tidy space. The outside area is so peaceful and will be at it's best in summer. The garden area very secure for a dog and the cottage is ideal for a single person and a four legged companion, quite a rare find. It rained very heavy one evening yet we heard nothing and felt very snug and warm. ”

“Great central location from which to explore the Borders region from Bamburgh to Melrose ; from the Alnwick Gardens to Edinburgh. After a great day exploring to return to our quiet countryside cottage for a relaxing glass while watching the sunset over the hills as the the horses enjoying a late night snack in the paddock and the swifts and bats doing tricks was wonderful . “Beautiful, peaceful, cosy. I could go on. The cottage was modern and cosy at the same time. There was a welcome hamper which contained a variety of items which would allow you to eat if you’d brought nothing with you including a cuppa or cappuccino ( with pain au chocolat). The host welcomed us and was available and asked how things were in passing. I would recommend this property and location to anyone. We had a wonderful time.”

“Wonderfully restored cottage with a lovely farmhouse kitchen complete with AGA and a large sitting room with a log stove (and lots of wood!), surrounded by old fashioned gardens. We found the owner very welcoming and helpful. What more could we ask for a relaxing and comfortable stay!”

“The Gate House is exactly as described. The property is small but very well appointed (in fact, it felt the perfect size). The host was quick to respond to queries and both thoughtful and detailed in replies. The views of the surrounding landscape are beautiful. The hot tub is nice. The main drive for Hetton Hall is nearby but that wasn’t an issue. We enjoyed a few nights of relaxing time in this excellent property.
