Centrally located, my stay at The Lookout allowed me to attend three outstanding Celtic Colours concerts in Judique, Cheticamp and Mabou. The accommodation is all that was promised… spotless, all amenities, comfortable bed, great shower, cozy even as the October temperatures dipped and wind drove the waves along the coast. One morning, I walked to the shore on the private path… here are some of my impressions—
Collindale
I walk a well-tended path to the shore
past the lonely cormorant perched on Sutherland’s Pond
past the pair of flickers
startled from feeding on rose hips
Up and over, through wind-waved dune grass
to powder soft sloping sands
white-capped waves sailing on blue water
Crashing the beach
I follow the faint track of a coyote
stopping to see where he circled round
a derelict lobster trap
once fragrant bait bag hanging from wire ribs
I sit on a weathered trunk
bleached by sun and salt water
watch a flight of crows
helter-skeltered by the wind
On my slow-stepping return
through the tangle of bayberry and regosa
one last raspberry reveals
all of summers sweetness on my tongue
