The house was in a state of disarray and filth. Despite the carpet being relatively new, a rancid odor permeated the entire space. Both the refrigerator and microwave, though new, were grimy. The kitchen was ill-equipped, lacking sufficient bakeware for the oven and flatware to serve even three people. There were no glasses, only coffee mugs. The countertops, inside the cabinets, and windowsills were all dirty and cluttered with debris. The dish drain, meant for clean dishes, was filthy. Every floor was unswept and in desperate need of mopping.
The bathroom was particularly appalling, worse than a public restroom, with a foul-smelling, unwashed toilet. There was no soap or paper towels available. Light fixtures were not only dirty but also filled with bugs, and the ceiling fan blades were caked with dust. The linen closet was empty of clean hand or bath towels. To make matters worse, the air conditioning units were precariously installed using cardboard from U-Haul boxes, creating an unsafe and unsightly situation.
