Host cancelled
On the day of check-in around 3pm(time of Check-in) the Host, Kiana(I think), called me and all said was I received the messages on how to enter the apartment and where to park, etc. but I wouldn’t be there til like 7-8pm that night. She said okay and the convo was ended.
At 3:04pm I received a text from her saying that they would have to cancel the reservation due to a water leak in the apartment. I called her right back asking how did this just become a thing and that we were in town for a wedding and we needed an explanation. You could tell she was making things up off the top of her head and even said that another unit had a water leak and that they had to move people into our reservation.. we explained that that’s not how this works. She kept just talking in circles and could tell she was lying so I called VRBO customer service. They contacted her(Kiana) while I was on hold and she told them that there was a leak under the kitchen sink and that’s why she cancelled the stay. That was the 3rd/4th story that she told and I feel like she wasn’t going to report it being cancelled if I didn’t call VRBO myself. I didnt get the message on the app that it was cancelled until after 10pm. It was definitely something fishy going on and very scam-like. VRBO couldn’t find us anything in so short of a notice but gave us a small amount of money on my keychain. I’m supposed to get my refund in 5-10 business days so we will see.
