We stayed in a number of locations in Antigua on this trip, but this was our favourite! It is not beachfront, so it is a car journey to beaches, but there are some really stunning beaches within a few minutes drive and parking is generally really easy. The villa has its own beach chairs, which were both easily portable and surprisingly comfortable, so you have the choice of finding your own tree and just putting your own chairs in its shade or renting beach umbrellas and loungers from someone like Trevor at Crabbe Hill Beach Rentals on Turners Beach.
The villa is beautiful. It is very spacious and could easily sleep six, but because it is not beachfront, it actually compares favourably with beachfront properties for price and so we just had two people in our party and luxuriated in the extra space.
The walk-in wardrobe in the master suite was wonderful and the laundry facilities with enormous and efficient washer and dryer made light work of our laundry. It was SO nice to arrive home after a long trip with hardly any washing to do!
The view from the villa is just stunning. You could just sit on the balcony and gaze at it for hours … and in fact we often did! By Antiguan standards, there were very few problems at this villa with mosquitoes. Just use deet after 4pm and don’t be outside at actual dusk and you’ll be fine. I was hardly bitten at all here, and I’m always bitten!
There are two balconies, both with cushioned rocking chairs. I had been a little nervous of this as my husband has fatigue issues and so I tend to choose properties with sun loungers on the balcony. However, the rocking chairs proved more relaxing for my husband than I had thought and so we didn’t feel the lack of sun loungers in the end.
We really appreciated Lenard, the property manager, who lives in a separate house just down the hill a little and the other side of the basketball court. He and his wife made us feel very welcomed and told us that it was their pleasure to deal with any issues that would make us more comfortable. We had some confusion with the coffee machine and Lenard provided an explanation that made it work for us. There is no kettle in the kitchen, but the coffee machine can dispense hot water so that’s fine. If you want coffee that is better than instant, then you have to buy Keurig K-cups. You can get them from the Epicurean at Jolly Harbour.
All in all, we highly recommend this villa as a great base for exploring.
