VRBO has been valuable for our family during the pandemic, and we have never left any negative feedback for any stay. This was by far, the WORST experience we've had, due to Vacasa, who manages this property.
The listing advertises the use of disinfectant on surfaces, especially those in high-touch areas, and that check in/check out are "contactless". We arrived after our check-in time, and the cleaning woman was still in the house. She told us that she was leaving momentarily, but remained in the house, unmasked, not following social distancing, for 20 minutes (this is in the midst of the Omicron surge in the Bay Area). She literally handed my wife the keys to the house, even though we made every polite attempt to let her know we did not feel comfortable.
The rugs were not vacuumed (the cleaning woman said the vacuum was broken), and the floors were not mopped. All floors were sticky to the touch, and our feet were filthy from walking around about an hour after arriving. All surfaces were grimy and clearly hadn't been wiped down. This is a small space, and there was not the slightest smell of disinfectant.
I had to specifically ask the cleaner to pick up popcorn all over the living room rug she planned on leaving (we have a dog who would eat it), but we still found some later (including popcorn in the utensil drawer and a partially eaten Oreo under the couch).
There were no working lights in one of the bedrooms, and there were exposed wires and an overloaded outlet posing a fire hazard.
The hot tub started leaking profusely immediately after being turned on. While we were assured someone would be there first thing next morning to fix that issue, they didn't show up until 2pm and informed me that it wouldn't be fixed during our stay.
There were no cleaning materials at the house for us to use, and Vacasa would not send someone else to properly clean the house or come to the property to verify what we were describing (they offered to do so, but dropped the idea when I took them up on that offer).
I contacted Vacasa within 10 minutes of the cleaning woman leaving, and followed up the next morning at 9:30, asking to receive a refund and leave immediately. Vacasa strung me along the entire day, and we left at 5:00 pm (2 days early) due to the conditions. I am still trying to work out proper compensation with Vacasa, who is making every effort to avoid responsibility.
I wouldn't recommend this house or renting from Vacasa, in general.
