Perfect for a stay in Birmingham
The property is exactly as advertised. Easy check-in process, super comfortable apartment and beds, and really quiet neighborhood. The apartment is really clean and there are some convenient features such as the washer/dryer. I don't think I heard another person in the complex the entire three nights we stayed there. Unbelievably quiet! Parking is easy and with a car you are downtown in about 3 minutes. We didn't spend too much time in Birmingham, but it seems like a super cool city. Overall, I would definitely use this apartment again. Susy is a great host and quick in responses.

If it weren't for the mold...
We weren't planning on staying in the room beyond sleeping, so were weren't needing much. Overall, the place was clean (other than a towel on the floor next to a bed), but the minute we opened the door there was a strong order of mildew/mold throughout. We found black mold spots on the kitchen ceiling and other dark spots on the ceiling in the main living room. My wife is allergic to mold. We got in very late, so we immediately packed up and found a hotel and sent a message to her and sent photos to vrbo support. The next day she asked for photos which were sent and offered another unit, but I called and said it was too much hassel and wanted a refund. I said it was hard to breathe, which she scoffed at, said she knew nothing about and said there had been someone who had stayed there for 3 weeks prior to us. (I find it hard to believe since there's rust on multiple vents, had mold and they do have a dehumidifier going, suggesting they had to know something.) After that she immediately stopped the conversation, and said she would respond through the app. Several hours later she asked us to cancel the booking (which we could not, because vrbo locks that option once a booking has started). As of a week later, we still have not been refunded. I've contacted vrbo 4 times and they keep saying they are waiting for response from the host. Their lack of follow-up is just as frustrating as the initial situation. So much for their "book with confidence" policy.

Great Place Great Host
Had a few issues unfortunately but over all stay was good. First when I arrived the refrigerator didn’t appear to be working. I notified the host immediately & she made a few suggestions. When they didn’t solve the problem I contacted her & she sent a repair person to resolve the issue unfortunately the refrigerator needed replacing according to repair person. But it wasn’t & a second repair person reached sane conclusion. So I was at property for 7 nights without a working refrigerator. I follow a specific diet & had traveled with 2 coolers worth of perishable food that I had to throw out. Plus I had to source other ways to feed myself which was difficult. Next the internet didn’t work for 5 of the 7 days. Someone from the service came to restore in on the 5th day afternoon. The smart tv didn’t work as stated in the property information & I could only sign in to one of my accounts on the smart tv I have a smart TV & am very familiar with operating them. The host was very attentive in responding to my requests for help with all of the above. However they were not resolved in a timely manner. Especially when I had booked a 7 night stay She did refund me $50 for my troubles but that seemed pale in comparison with the $1,100 I spent on the rental. While I enjoyed my trip to Birmingham & liked the location I don’t think I will stay with this host again. I wasted too much time on the back & forth etc.
