Homey beautiful space
Always start with the pros: the upstairs living area was suspicious and beautifully nestled among the trees. It did feel very much like a treehouse. You could tell this was a family home, and many of their daily use items were left at the property for others now to enjoy. I loved that the family left notes and photos to show a strong connection to Germany and their history. A lot of love and care has grown in this space, and we felt very welcome. Now. I wish I would’ve known more about how the bedrooms were laid out. Three are listed on VRBO. However, the one meant for children with a bunkbed is on the first floor, next to the garage/feels like a basement. It’s a bit creepy down there and aside from the fact that the children were afraid to sleep there, it’s just not practical to have young children on their own on a totally different level from the parents. The upstairs had two bedrooms, but one of them was substantially larger and better set up. The other felt more like a closet, with barely enough room for a full-size bed with no actual closet or dresser to put your clothes down. It was sort of smooshed between the laundry room and the other bedroom. Also, there is a massive steep staircase when you first walk in, leading up to the living quarters. There’s no way to block it off with a baby gate; any traveler with very young children needs to be aware. Overall though, it’s a lovely place and convenient to the lakes. Excellent host communication.
