Despite being advertised as a no pet unit, I knew within 10 minutes of entering that cats had been in the unit recently. The unit was clean, but as anyone allergic to cats knows, dander is in the air and can't be swept or vacuumed away, which the rental agency did offer to do.
Though the rental agency implied that a cat must have been smuggled in by a previous VRBO customer, the spray to remove pet urine I found under the sink implies that whoever owns the place brings their pets to the unit.
To stay there, I had to purchase over $80 worth of allergy medicine, I had to eat out more than I intended to give my sinuses a break, and I couldn't sit on any of the upholstered furniture without exacerbating my allergic reaction.
The managing company has offered to reimburse me for $20, of my pharmacy costs, which is only a quarter of the cost I incurred and feels like a slap in the face more than a payment of good will.
This experience has made me very wary of using VRBO in the future.
