Sweet Afton is a cute country cottage with a few little endearing quirks expected from an older home -- squeaky wood floors, wavy windows, and sometimes prickly door/window operations. The gardens, which provide ample privacy from traffic and neighbors, were beautiful even in September. My favorite was to sit on the back porch and enjoy the view of the gardens, the mountains, and the deer that visited pretty much every morning and evening -- even in the rain. I thought the beds and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom -- although small -- was nicely updated with shelves to store your bath items. The kitchen had everything that I needed (hot water kettle!) -- though I typically bring meals from home that just need warming up. Having live plants in the house definitely made it feel homey. The cottage, besides being in a beautiful setting, was extremely convenient to hiking BRP/SNP and the Blue Ridge Tunnel (which the East entrance was only like a 3-minute drive). It's also convenient if you want to visit the local country/general stores, orchards, and antique stores. Also, I am not an "Apple" user, so figuring out the remotes took a few extra minutes - but not insurmountable, obviously! I did have a few things that I alerted Guesthouses about during my stay and they were very responsive. I think my one recommendation is a quick sweep of the porches and windows before a guest arrives to make it feel a little more inviting. Overall, I would definitely return.
