Barranca es una antigua aldea hispana al oeste de Abiquiu, sobre el río Chama. En su pequeña plaza hay algunas casas de adobe, una de las cuales es una encantadora casa de vacaciones con dos dormitorios y un baño.
Las gruesas paredes de adobe tienen incorporado nicho tradicional. El comedor cuenta con banco tradicional y en toda la casita son pisos de madera y baldosas. Una estufa de leña te brinda una gran comodidad en el invierno. Las gruesas paredes mantienen fresca la casa en el verano.

Un gran jardín con árboles frutales rodea la casita.

En Barranca encontrará un arroyo animado que viene de las montañas. Siga el arroyo alimentado por manantiales aguas arriba y entre en el Bosque Nacional de Santa Fe con vistas sensacionales del valle de Abiquiu y las tierras montañosas circundantes. Las tierras baldías con formaciones parecidas a duendes están cerca. El río Chama, a lo largo del cual se encuentran los ranchos de ganado, es ideal para la pesca.

La casita se encuentra a pocos minutos de la casa de Georgia O'Keeffe ya un corto trayecto en coche de la cuenca de Piedra Lumbre. Ghost Ranch merece muchas visitas y no te olvides de conducir hacia el cañón del río Chama para hacer una caminata o visitar el monasterio benedictino.
El desierto del río Chama es un paraíso para los exploradores.

La acequia, el sistema tradicional de agua de la comunidad hispana, todavía se tiene en alta estima en Barranca. El mayordomo decide quién irriga cuando. El jardín de la casita se puede regar los sábados.

Se pueden realizar excursiones de un día a Ojo Caliente Mineral Hot Springs, Taos en Taos Pueblo, Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Santa Fe, Los Álamos, Chama (con el pintoresco Ferrocarril Cumbres y Tolteca), Bandelier National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historic Park , Valle Grande, etc. etc.
Senderismo lo largo de todo el equipo de Georgia O'Keeffe país. Ghost Ranch, donde la Sra O'Keeffe tenía su estudio, está a la vuelta de la esquina, Pesca en Abiquiu lago o río Chama, La caza en Santa Fe y Carson Bosques Nacionales (oficinas para la obtención de permisos en las cercanías de El Rito y Española), Turismo de todo a través del Cañón Canones y Piedra Lumbre valle, canotaje y esquí acuático en el lago Abiquiu, Rafting en el río Chama. Cada año en octubre - Fin de semana Días Columbus - Abiquiu tiene su Abiquiu Studio Tour. Un buen momento para disfrutar de los colores cambiantes de nuestros árboles de álamo y el arte de artistas locales. Puede visitar a unos 60 artistas en sus estudios Abiquiu, de los cuales al menos 5 de ellos se encuentran a poca distancia de Barranca Plaza Casita.

Tanto Barranca Plaza Casita como Martinez Casita ofrecen total privacidad. Superb!
This was a lovely and cozy little adobe cottage surrounded by Floyd's well-kept garden in a country setting. Perfect for one or two people who want a quiet getaway. Having said that, I can't stress enough how the warm and welcoming personalities of Floyd and Ninfa Martinez made my stay there wonderful. They are non-intrusive but available and friendly and I felt like family by the time I left. Ninfa brought over her fabulous zucchini bread and Floyd shared his garden delights. I was very happy to be able to bring my two dogs with me. Like so many other reviews, I have to agree that this was a 10/10.

The casita is heaven on earth!
The Barranca Casita is one of my favorite places on the planet. it is quiet, serene, and the casita has all the comforts of home. The Abiquiu area has such a fascinating history and there is so much to explore. The Martinez family are simply the BEST hosts. They are kind, attentive, and share such wonderful stories. An Authentic Norther NM Experience
Floyd and his family were so kind and welcoming. Floyd started a fire in the wood stove every morning as my Girl Scout fire starting badge had lapsed. Old traditional adobe with just enough modern amenities. My dogs ran and ran and enjoyed the great outdoors. I sat in front of the fire and read a book.

Perfect in every way
This is a lovely traditional adobe home located in a slightly rural area, with a great host. The scenery is stunning with mountains in every direction and the Chama River just down the hill. Very cozy, and relaxing.

Coming Home

Cozy casita in a beautiful setting
We stayed three nights and were blown away by the friendliness and hospitality of the owner who lives across the plaza. He shared tomatoes and cucumbers with us from his garden. We truly felt at home. We sat outside and looked at the view of the cliffs when we ate breakfast. We will return and we wish our host and his family the very best.

Adobe Casita with a View
Great stay for the two of us. You get to experience the feeling of an adobe casita (thick walls, everything rounded including doorways and all edges. The dining nook was unique. There were great views from the front porch and patio area. The casita was spacious with lots of tile work. The location was convenient for all there is to see around Abiquiu and the price was very reasonable. Suggestions for the listing--need a better map to get you their (too many opportunities to be on the wrong road or make a wrong turn--we got lost twice, but easy once you get the correct way). Also, no door or covering on the second bedroom and must go thru the main bedroom to get to the bath (did not matter to us, but would be a surprise to others). Overall, we loved the experience! Floyd was very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful and relaxing
This beautiful location has to be one of our favorite vacation spots. Floyd and his family were very welcoming, the casita was clean and had all that we needed in it, and the views were incredible especially for a morning cup of coffee on the porch...or even an evening drink watching the sun light up different aspects of the mountain range. The casita is quite remote but the owners are nearby so it felt safe. The kitchen was wonderfully well equipped and It is close to a general store with everything else you might need. There is a nice view from the front porch which is surrounded by green grass & fruit trees. Very pleasant.

A real taste of Northern New Mexico!
If you are looking for an authentic setting in rural New Mexico, this is it. Set among rolling farmland along the Chama River you get the feeling of going back in time. Friendly kind hosts, great accomodations with everything you need to feel comfortable. My aim was to give my guests from Switzerland an genuine taste of Abiquiu, and we were not dissappointed! Floyd went out of his way to make sure we were fully informed about the area before our visit & was there for anything we might need. I will return!

Amazing Stay in the Barranca Plaza Casita
We thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent at this casita. The hosts were so hospitable and helpful. The casita itself was perfect in every way. It truely became our home for the two weeks we were there. A lot of care has been given to the casita both inside and out. It's very quiet and peaceful in the Barranca hamlet. The slower pace of life was very much appreciated. Abiquiu and surrounding areas are truly unique. So much history and tradition with family roots going back several generations makes it a wonderful place to visit. The outdoor activities and scenery are amazing. The Barranca Plaza Casita is the perfect place to stay to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

The best kept secret in the area.
We first made our reservation for seven days and then with some more days available, we were able to stay over for another three days. Thanks Floyd, for accommodating us so very well. Everything through the whole process was very easy to accomplish by phone communication. Thanks for meeting us there late. Our arrival was later than we planned due to navigation errors on our part, but with Floyd’s assistance and directions, everything worked out. This is a great place, very clean and comfortable, with all the things one could ask for. We can’t say enough about it. It was just the place to be for staying in the Abiquiu area. My wife attended a clay sculpture workshop. We got out and did some hiking. Went on the tour to Georgia O’Keffe’s home and studio. Went to Ghost Ranch. Went down to Santa Fe and over to Taos. All this is very doable staying at Casa Martinez. Definitely would go back, and would highly recommend to anyone else in the future. Looking to find a great place to stay in a great area, this is it. Many thanks to our wonderful host, we really appreciate all you did for us. All our best.

One of our best getaway locations ever...close to local attractions, an easy drive to Sante Fe. Best of all, house was comfortable, kitchen had all the basics, and the enclosed yard made it easy to bring our dog. Floyd greeted us upon arrival and gave us a quick overview of the house. Great host!

Awesome place!
Everything about this place was perfect! Floyd is an amazing host! We arrived after dark and because the house is a little hard to find in the dark, he met us at the nearby store on the main road so we could follow him to the house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. House was super clean and Wi-Fi worked great. We traveled with our dogs and the yard is fenced and Floyd even has a pet waste can in the corner and bags for cleanup. Floyd is very hospitable and communication was great from beginning to end. Would definitely stay here again!
